Frequently Asked Questions

Why use backing tracks?

Sometimes you play solo, or you can't bring the whole band, or you want elements from the studio recording that no-one can actually play live.

A piece of cake gives you a lot of flexibility to use backing tracks however you want to, plus the click track (metronome) helps you stay in time to consistently deliver a professional performance.

What file formats are supported?

A piece of cake supports standard 44.1kHz, 16-bit WAV audio files for professional sound quality.

How do I add backing tracks?

Simply connect the device to your computer using the included USB-C cable and drag and drop your audio files. No special software required.

We've tested and confirmed compatibility with Mac OS, Windows, Chrome OS, and Linux.

How do I use the metronome (click track)?

The built-in metronome generates a click in sync with your tracks. Just add the BPM (beats per minute) to the filename, and the device takes care of the rest.

Can I change bpm or add bpm changes during a song?
No, think of this like a traditional metronome: it’s “set and forget” for every song. That means the tempo runs from start to finish, and doesn’t support mid-song bpm changes or breaks.

Which time signatures (meters) are supported?

A huge range, from simple counts like 3/4 and 4/4, to more complex ones like 5/4, 7/8 and 12/8. We've tested all the time signatures in between. The device always defaults to 4/4 so you only need to specify time signature (meter) if you're using something other than 4/4.

How many songs can I save on the 20gb storage?

With 20GB of onboard storage, you’ve got plenty of space! As an example:

  • A typical 3-minute song in 44.1kHz, 16-bit WAV format is about 50 MB.
  • 20GB (20,000 MB) ÷ 50 MB/song = approximately 400 songs!

How is it powered?

The player is powered via USB-C. That's the same cable used for transferring files. No extra power cables or adapters needed.

How easy is it to set up new songs?

Super easy! You can use drag and drop to copy files from your computer onto the device. Safely eject the device and you're done. It's that easy.

If you want to use the metronome then just add the BPM to the filename (e.g., "mySong_120bpm.wav") and the device automatically syncs the metronome to your track. No menus or deep settings required.

How do I organise my setlist or track order?

Tracks are played in alphanumerical order, just like files on most music devices. For best results, number your tracks (e.g., 01, 02, 03) or use letters (A, B, C) if you prefer.

Examples:

  • 01 intro_120bpm.wav
  • 02_NewSong.wav
  • 3 SummerDays_128bpm.wav
  • A Jamtrack_100bpm.wav
  • B_ballad_3-4_72bpm.wav

This makes it easy to structure your setlist and have your songs play in your desired sequence. One less thing to think about.
